World2Meet strengthens its leadership in Caribbean inbound tourism with the acquisition of Grupo Despegar’s DMC

World2Meet, the travel division of Grupo Iberostar, has entered into a strategic alliance with Grupo Despegar, one of the leading travel and tourism companies in Latin America. As part of this agreement, World2Meet acquires the Destination Management Company (DMC) inbound business of Grupo Despegar, becoming the preferred partner for inbound services in Mexico and the Dominican Republic. This agreement will enhance the development of the entire tourism value chain in the region.

  • The strategic alliance with Grupo Despegar will boost the inbound tourism value chain in Mexico and the Dominican Republic, strengthening the range of services offered in the Caribbean.

With this acquisition, the travel division of Grupo Iberostar marks a new milestone in its commitment to strengthening and expanding its presence in inbound tourism worldwide. The synergy between both companies will reinforce the service offering and improve the experience of travellers who place their trust in World2Meet.

Grupo Despegar’s DMC is an inbound operator with more than 30 years of experience in the industry, specialising in passenger transport services. The company provides airport transfers, private and group tours, and personalised assistance for tourists. It is distinguished by its fleet of vehicles, including coaches and vans equipped with advanced technology. These technological systems not only improve safety standards but also enhance the quality of service for travellers and wholesalers contracting these services, ensuring a safe and satisfactory travel experience for all clients.

Gabriel Subías, CEO of W2M, stated: “We are very pleased with this strategic alliance, which enables us to move forward alongside Grupo Despegar in various product and distribution areas in Latin America. The acquisition of the inbound operation in Mexico and the Dominican Republic is a significant first step within this collaboration, giving us greater control over the product and service we offer our clients. This alliance not only strengthens our commitment to quality but also consolidates our position in the Caribbean, paving the way for future joint growth opportunities.”

Meanwhile, Santiago Elijovich, General Manager of Grupo Despegar Mexico, added: “We welcome this agreement with the conviction that it will drive the development of the entire tourism value chain in the region, facilitating the growth of both groups and their commercial relationships.”
